The BeadCreators

Creating beautiful beadwork with BeadCreator

Replies to This Discussion

I too am trying to figure out how to enter my actual inventory - I am very visual so would like real explicit instructions if anyone has any. Thanks

Maria,

You no longer enter your inventory into the palette, just the cost figures. You enter your inventory in InventoryManager, which is a database. I suggest waiting for manual before going through this process. You can import a palette; then using modify, you will enter a count of 'each' bead. This is because the count in design is done by 'each' bead. This is an approximate amount you will have to calculate. Example: I weigh my inventory of Delicas in grams, so I had to times the grams by 200 (approx. per gram) to come up with my 'each' count. IM is available from Windows>Start>BeadCreator or Menu>Inventory>Open. In order for BeadCreator to recognize the .INV file you will create, it has to be Saved into the main path of BeadCreator. C:\\Program Files\Bead Creator (your version).

Susie Hughes,
I'm glad you responded to my need, but like Chrissy I'm a more visual person too. I have some experience with a computer, but you wouldn't ever hire me to even touch you computer, much less this software, that's totaling foreign to me. I'll need a little more help.

One clearer walk thought would be a little more helpful.

Thank you for trying.

This helps a little, but I wish you offered an actual tortorial that show you real example. Divide into entering your own bead stash, Doing a simple design from scratch, Saving your design.

What do you mean by saving my inventory outside my computer? (Save on CD or just in a different folder)

I think maybe this software is more involved than I'm ready to take on. When you have a lot of bells and whistle, you sometimes never really appreciate what you have until you totally understand how and why you doing what you do.

I think I need to take a step back, try to understand why I purchased this software. Be careful what you wish for, you may get it.

Maria,

I certainly understand the need for Tutorials, but I just did the Manual on the Menu Commands. Maybe someone else will do some Tuts for version 5, as the tuts for version 4 don't work for 5. (Susan (the Grim Reaper) wrote most of the last great visual tutorials and maybe she can do so again.) I would also hope that you do give the Manual a look see.

Saving outside computer is just that. It's for in case you have a total computer crash and you don't want to loose your designs. I just wanted you to know to save the database too. Yes CD or those wonderful new USB memory sticks.

Every new BeadCreator user has felt overwhelmed by the software at some point. Don't be afraid of all the bells and whistle because you will appreciate them after you understand them. You can create designs easily with BeadFaerie and the software won't let you exit without saving your design first. Inventory is not necessary to learn how to create designs. So take baby steps.

Perhaps you're confusing the Inventory Manager plug-in database with just simply creating your own palette that represents all the beads you own?

It's easy to choose the colors from the Delica 11 (full) palette that are the ones you own:
--Go to Plug-ins up on the main toolbar
--Choose Palette Creator
--(Don't worry about the Source Image pane when palette creator opens)
--On the little palette-picture icon, open the Miyuki 11 sorted-by-number palette from the drop-down menu.
--Then, in "Edit", tell it to UNcheck all colors.
--Now just go down the list and check the color #s you have. (If you have many many Delica # beads already, you can also leave the list checked, and uncheck the ones you don't have. I have 150 or so of abt 900 color #s, so I unchecked the list and re-checked the ones I have.)
--Then Save the (new) palette--yours, on the right pane--with whatever name you choose, like My-Beads.

Your new palette should now show up in the palettes list when you use the bead fairie.

P.S. Do this operation WITHOUT a pattern opened on your screen, and be sure you're running the program as "administrator" just to be safe that it will save everything.

Does that help?

I'll keep you posted on how this works out for me. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, because I really need to get a handle on this software.

I just push buttons to learn
This is what I have so far
open bead inventory, file>import colors from palette- I used Dewy Delica numerical
all the beads in the palette show up
now click on the color you have and the Edit>modify or the symbol to the right of the X
where the zero is highlighted enter the amount of beads you have in stock, if its not a new tube you have to approx. the qty
when you finish your pattern go to inventory>add design and the beads will be taken off your inv list or tell you if you are short a color
