The BeadCreators

Creating beautiful beadwork with BeadCreator

I'm not happy with this version at all!  Is anyone else having issues with this new version?

There are parts of the new version that I don't find attractive for me. I don't like having to use the bead fairy to do a new pattern and you can't change the way the pattern is working between sharp, classic and so on like in #4.
I admit to not playing with it enough yet to be sure that it's not just me but there were features in the older version that I liked better. I have kept #4 up and usable and find myself there most of the time so far.

Hi Georgia,
I did a little baying at the moon myself over the BeadFaerie; but it grows on ya. You can still tweek the pattern after BeadFarie with the sharp, classic, etc... See Color Conversion on main screen. ... and check out the slider bar that makes the pattern transpartent so you can see the graphic.

Chrissy,
You did not say what exactly you are not happy with other than 5.0 is confusing. Yes, there are some big changes and things work differently than one was used too. If you have a specific problem area, ask me. I am writing the manual, so I should be able to answer you.

LOL! I know everyone wants to know 'when' will the manual be ready and all I can says is ASAP. An inventory database has been added. I am experimenting and documenting as fast as I can.

Susie,
I'm having several issues - hard to write down but will try. One issue is that I have scanned in a photo (black and white). I have chosen size 11 beads in an 8 x 10 format loomed. I'm assuming "Nick" is a nickname which I have assigned. I apply it and the pattern turns into thousands of black beads - no definition at all. I am able to use other photos with no problems at all. Secondly, I want to omit for instance 6 columns from the middle. I finally figured out I can't move the "x" on my own I have to tell it how many columns from the left or right I want to delete. The "x" will move to that position but when I use the "finish" button, nothing happens. Thirdly, I want all beads to show up in the palette, and not sure which palette to choose. It's just kind of frustrating. These are just a few of my concerns as I just got my computer back and am trying to use this program. My computer crashed on the 12th of January and I lost everything. My hard drive could not be saved. I can't even recover BC 4 which I loved. I guess I'm the only one out of 700 who can't figure things out!! Any support you could provide until the manual is available would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Susie, I will have to play with it more as I said before to Crissy but it is interesting and will be fun to learn.
On the black and white issue.....I found before that a palette created with all blacks, grays and whites was a big help rather than letting the program pick for me. When doing photos I also like to use mostly matte finish so made up a palette for myself and would be happy to share that with you if you like. You may want to tweak it after viewing but it would be a start.
mail me off group and I will send it to you if you like.

I am having trouble as well. I cannot open any pallettes. When I create a design some pallettes show up but I am unable to edit them to my colours and I cannot create a pallette at all like I could in BCP4. What am I missing?
I understand there will be a patch soon to restore that. We all like to make our own palettes for varies things and I can't find how to do that with 5.
There were a couple features from 4 that some of us lamented over and so a fix is in the works, I think.

Chrissy,

The black/white photo - no clue. Are white bead colors turned on (Usage column)? Try fiddling with Color Conversion on Main Design Screen (left side). This is the Exact, Sharp or Smooth conversion from photo. Nick is a nickname required for InventoryManager. When adding/deleting columns/rows, before clicking on finish you have to click on Add or Remove button.
There are 2 Dewey Delica Color Group sorted palettes. The regular one has all colors turned on for Usage. The safe palette only has the safe colors (non-shinny) beads turned on. You can turn on all colors for usage from Menu>Edit down at bottom. You should be able to get BC 4 from support and reinstall it on your computer. It's OK to have both versions on your computer.
Hope that helps you.

Hi Chari-Lynn,

The new concept on Palettes in BC 5.0 is you have to create them, edit them and copy them in PaletteCreator. Poor Andrew, I freaked out a little bit with this new concept; but I'm OK with it now. You can edit a palette used in a design in BeadCreator with the Edit... button way down at the bottom (left-side) of Main Design Screen under Color Map; do your editing, then close PaletteCreator and save the changes in BC. You can save changed design's palette by going to Menu>File>Export>Export Palette in Own Format. You can only save 'the entire' palette to another name for now. I think maybe it needs some tweaking, like only export beads checked for usage to make smaller palettes.
Clear at mud. LOL! ... hope that helps some.

Georgia,

I'm glad there will be a patch. I tried to think of all things one would want to do with palettes; but I only recently realized that possibility was missing. Maybe if you explain to me what you need to do, I can see where it would work best.

However, can you give this a try. Take one of my Dewey Delica Color Sort palettes(preferabbly not the Safe one) and open in PaletteCreator; then SaveAs to different name, Go to Menu>Edit>Uncheck all colors. Then click on column Type/Color to sort by type/finish. This is a 3-digit # (100-889) Matte beads are (x20-x29). Semi-Matte beads (x31-x38) and Plated Mattes (x85-x89). Go down the list and check the usage in those matte beads you want. Sort the column by Index column to keep everything in color sort order. It just took me 5 minutes to do that. Save the palette. Then go to BeadFaerie and create a new design (from graphic) with the new Matte Color Sorted Palette. Then go to Menu>Edit>Edit Color Groups. There are 2 buttons for Columns... one for top list and one for bottom list. Add columns Index and Usage to both. Sort the bottom by Usage column, and now you can see similar colors in matte and they are in color group order. You can add to the bottom list the NickName and remove Inventory, Assign, & Shortage for now. Click on Index column in bottom list; then click on Usage column and this is sorted by Usage, then Index (which is color group sorted) and you can see what type/finish bead is. Ta Da! What do you think? I think this is so, so COOL!

Susie-
Perhaps I am missing something here-----
What image would you like to use? I pick my image and click NEXT
What bead palette would you like to use? There are 3 so I chose the 3rd one and checked all beads
What pattern parameters would you like to use? 8 x 10
Nick - gave a name
Hit apply - and then I get 26,560 DB0010 beads and nothing else

I did not see where there was a "sharp" or any other button for me to play with. Have a missed something>

Chrissy,

From BeadFaerie, click on Finish. You can re-created the design again (after BeadFaerie is closed) from the Main Screen. On the right side of screen. At the top it says Color Conversion. Under the Color Scheme is a slider bar that says Smooth - Exactly - Sharpen. Moving that changes the design and amount of colors. It appears to me that Exactly is the default conversion done in BeadFaerie. Go down a little further for the second slider bar for Color Image and click in the checkmark. If you slide that all the way to the left you should see your original image. What is the original image's size in inches? Not the 8x10 inches you want to make the design. If it is larger than 8x10 and being shunk down that could be a problem; but you think you would at least get a few non-black beads.
Let me know.

I am having issues. Mine will not allow me to save my designs unless I open the program every time as administrator. What issues are you having?
