The BeadCreators

Creating beautiful beadwork with BeadCreator

Etsy had some national attention early in 2008, on I believe the Martha Stewart show, and have also set up Kiosks at some of the larger Employment convention settings to promote self developement through sales from an already developed and maintained website. I have had some of my things on it (revadrchee.etsy.com) off and on the last year but haven't sold anything yet. I live in a rural community in the mountains that isn't a good avenue for the kinds of things I make, however I do fairly well at certain craft fairs. I have recently purchased a building in anticipation for a retirement project and will advertise my things more openly on Etsy.com. Not sure there is any magical combination for selling on the Etsy website. I am going to use it to a large extent as a source for people to make credit card purchases from my shop so I don't have to deal with the monthly fees from the credit card company's.

Reva,

Nice things on Etsy. I am also trying to sell some things online. Mostly chains and chainmaille, but some beaded stuff will show up. My site is kaeti.etsy.com I added you to my favorites.

It is nice to have a site that is already up and ready to go. It wasn't too difficult to get started. The fees aren't bad, either, I didn't think. As far as selling and all, I think you really have to get into the Featured and get on the galleries. It costs more, but I haven't done that yet. I was one the Treasury once and that was exciting for a newbee. I don't want to deal with the card companies, either. Paypal does make it easy to sell online, though.

I haven't looked into the "Featured" and the "Galleries." I will pursue that when I have enough items made to justify the additional time and cost. Thanks for the tips. I will go look at your site right now!!!

I've sold one item from Etsy and I've been using for over a year now. The thing about it is that it is inexpensive to list items - however, this is a drawback too. There is a LOT of competition from wholesalers from other countries who sell for pennies - and who's going to pay $30 for an item they can get from china or Korea at wholesale cost (no offense intended) for $10. So I've found it is very difficult to sell anything of my work for what it is worth. But again, you run into the same kind of problem on Ebay, except their seller fees are so extraordinarily high now that I can't afford to sell there any longer. I mostly make my money by word of mouth and repeat customers who just keep coming back for more. A year ago I actually had a lady who bought one barrette from ebay, and then ordered 40 more! That took me a very long long time to finish her order!

Maybe someone here will have some tips for us for selling!
