Brenda,
When you wrap the bar with line and put on that first strand of beads, try to use a different color thread until you are comfy with the method. When you go to take it off the loom, cut ONLY the thread you used to anchor that first row of beads. If you are winding that row using Fireline, color it with a marker so you can ID it later. You need to do this because you will also have actual warp threads running along the same pathway, cut the wrong one and you have a pile of beads on your desk instead of the nice woven piece you wanted.
That article was more confusing than helpful I think. Go to Moondance.com and buy Theresa Gutherie's book on no warps........it is the ultimate way to understand why you do everything. It is a very good reference and is only $20.00.

I did a small sample using this method but the article didn't explain what you do to take the work off the loom.... Am I missing something????

The issue was February 2005. I'll email you off list as well.

Seekin,
What issue of B&B? I have almost all of them and just looked through a whole slew of them for the little article. I know I have it here, and I am pretty sure there was something in it that I didn't like/agree with. I won't pay $4 for something I have sitting here. So LMK.
Write me off list so that we can go back and forth quicker (dmzapp@gmail.com).
One thing your warp starter row should never be able to do is slide around. So something is going wrong.
Give me the mag issue and let's get you going good.

Hi Donna.
I actually got some instructions off of Kalmbach.com from and old issue of Bead and Button.

I'm just doing a small patch right now to practice it. I'm having some problems with the beads on the ends of the 'starter' rows trying to slide around and I had to use extra thread to tie them down to stop this. I'm wondering if it's just the method I used or if this is a common problem (I am also open to the fact that I may have not done it right). Any tips or tricks for this?

Seekin,
I do most of my work with "no warps"........issues, oh yesss. Give me an idea of what you are doing and what is happening and I'll be happy to help you if I can. Do you have written instructions, like from Theresa Gutherie (Moondance) or like those that came with a loom?

Doesn't look like it's been too active in here lately, but I'll give a question a whirl. Has anyone worked witht he no warps method for setting up your loom. I'm doing it now and am having some issues so was wondering if anyone else is running into the same problems.

Journi,
I went and looked up the Spider thread.........If you bought the Ultracast Invisi it is a braided line and similar or the same as Fireline. The other Spider lines are monofilament and not the same. Just in case you don't like the outcome, try to find Fireline the next time.
Also, I did one project with 10# Fireline and it was mega-stiff and difficult to end the lines. I almost redid the whole thing (I redid a cuff once, just rewarped the loom and sat the unsatisfactory one next to the loom and took off one row at a time and rewove it.
I truly hope you are happy and successful with this product, but in case you are not, don't give it up.

If you cut the point off your needle it is virtually impossible to pierce fireline. I do it regularly as I am a "pull and pray" addict. My pieces are usually 6 in wide or so so I do find I have to work in sections. Otherwise the pulled thread gets too long to handle.
