Hi Rhonda
You have fun and enjoy the warmer weather, anything is better than this deep freeze that were in. I was born in Arizona but never got to go back and see what it looked like, as we lived in Calif. at the time.

Hi Penny and Carol
Just wanted to let you know that I'll be headed to AZ for a week. If my sons will let me borrow their computers I'll be checking in from time to time. Or I guess I should say my grand sons. My oldest sons to step sons will be visiting him for a week and the youngest is a real computer whiz. I won't have my BCP available but I will be able to gather some of my bead books to bring back with me, as well as pick up my new loom.
Hugs

It's a pleasure to get to correspond with both of you!

Rhonda, I've got Susie Hughes' system set up in a palette for the 11/o delicas, all but the new colors Miyuki added this year. I've also seen her information about whether the bead recedes or comes forward. I think I also put R or F in my palette, or did something similar. I still don't trust my judgment or the colors displayed on the monitor. I hope I get better with experience.

Thanks to both of you for being so friendly!

Hi Penny,
Welcome to the group. It's been cold here at Ticaboo to and snowed again last night, one of the locals told me it rarely snows here. Where we are from in AZ we only have one or 2 days of cold weather. We lived in Tooele 31 years ago, I was younger then and didn't remember it being this cold,LOL.
I haven't tried any portrait patterns yet, I mostly do animals or Southwest designs. Though the piece I've been fine tuning my design for is of the backs of 3 young cowboys on a pipe fence. No faces to deal with but the boys were all wearing strips or plaids the day I took the picture.
Suzi Hughes has a PDF on one of the other forums with information about her sorting system for BCP. One of the most useful pages in it shows whether the bead type recedes or comes forward. I don't have her sorting system entered into the latest palette yet so what I've done is enter 2000 as inventory in the beads I own, then I've used her chart to determine whether it recedes or comes forward and entered either a R or F in one of the sort column that way I can require the pattern to use only colors in my inventory and then check for its properties and change when needed.
Each monitor seems to show some of the colors in the palettes differently so when I find one that seems really off I hold my bead next to the monitor and adjust the color until I'm happy. Not very scientific but it works for me.
I'm pretty familiar with the program so willl help anytime I can.
Stay warm. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

Hi Carol and Rhonda,
I live in (freezing cold) Salt Lake City. It's nice to meet you! I'm using BC4 Publisher's Edition. I don't do many patterns at all but when I do, I like to use BeadCreator. I've had some challenges. I'd like to take a photo of my favorite musical artist and bead it into a nice little pillow or something for his charity organization. The problem is that I don't know the (delica 11) bead finishes well enough to put the proper finish in the right place to stand out or fade back. I also notice that the computer color palettes don't always match the actual color of the beads. I keep trying to learn, so maybe I'll get it eventually. Merry Christmas! Penny

I would love to see some of your work. I do both also, I love designing from a blank graph but its so much fun seeing a photo become a pattern that can be beaded. Right now I'm about finished with a Navajo style fabric tapestry for a tote bag. Then I'll be doing a beaded piece to applicate to one side of it.

Hi Carol, Welcome to the Utah group. I'm living at Ticaboo, close to Lake Powell and the Bullfrog Marina right now. I just moved here in September. I'm not sure how long I will be in Utah since there have been some changes with my husbands job. We may move closer to Moab or we might head home to AZ. but for now here I am.
BCP has so many features that even after 4 years I'm still learning how to use all of them. One really great help are the Tutorials that Jaycee Designs (Juanita Carlos) shared. They are posted at the old Technical forumn and I'm hoping Andrew will transfer them here when he gets a chance.
Do you design from photo's or start with a blank graph?
Hugs
Rhonda
